Hack the Boat
ONE CONFERENCE 2024
Recognized as one of Europe’s leading cybersecurity conferences, the ONE Conference brings together experts from government, academia, and industry to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and innovations in the field of cybersecurity.
This year, ON2IT has the privilege of presenting at ONE Conference on the main stage. Together with Damen Naval Shipyards, we’ll be hosting “Hack the Boat” where we will delve into the challenges of securing naval vessels in an increasingly digital world.
Ships are an easy target for cybercriminals, and that’s a serious concern. If banks, factories, and stores can be hacked, then ships and ports are also at risk. The question is: why aren’t these incidents occurring more often?
Historically, ships were relatively secure due to their lack of internet connectivity. This was due to the limited use of IT in ships, which mostly relied on operational technology (OT) and rarely connected to the internet.
Modern shipping operations however rely heavily on both Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) for navigation, communication, and operational management. This reliance makes ships susceptible to cyber-attacks that target these technologies.
This presentation will explore several scenarios that illustrate the potentially severe consequences of these vulnerabilities and how hackers can infiltrate ship systems. It will also discuss strategies for enhancing cybersecurity resilience across the maritime sector, including both ships and ports.
